FIRESTONE:
TONCHI McINTOSH & ANDREW HULL
CD Released 2002
This album is the first to come from a
project in collaboration with Bourke writer Andrew Hull.
The "River Roads" project aims to tell the
story of the Western NSW region and in doing so, preserve
and promote the people and places that characterise
this remote but beautiful part of Australia. The album
tells the Irish / Australian pioneering story of Mary
Divine and Thomas Mathews and the founding of the town
of Louth in Western NSW in the late 1800's . It is an
amazing story that captures the spirit of the the west
and explains the mystery of a glowing celtic cross that
reflects the sun in a magnificent halo to this day.
"A glowing granite cross in a remote river township,
a woman transplanted from the soft green of Ireland
to her husband¹s fledgling township in Australia,
the dying days of the paddle steamer trade these are
just some of the stories gathered and translated into
song by Tonchi McIntosh and Andrew Hull on the CD Fire
Stone. Tonchi and Andrew, friends since primary school,
decided to pool their musical, writing and research
skills in a trip up the Darling River, stopping off
in townships, properties and pubs along the way to collect
local stories they could work into poems and songs."
